Meet our new team!

I am excited to announce that my first set of mentees have graduated my “Lactation Doula” course and are ready to serve families across the Lower Mainland!

What’s the difference between a lactation consultant and a lactation doula?

A Lactation Consultant has passed the International Board Certification exam. To become certified as a lactation consultant requires many hours of clinical experience as well as health science and lactation education. Many extended health insurances reimburse clients with an official receipt. Please ask your insurance company if your plan does.

A Lactation Doula, a term we came up with, is a doula who has done Mama Milk’s extensive mentorship program. They started the mentorship program with lots of experience supporting families under their belt. After many hours of observing and consulting with Shaz, IBCLC and founder of Mama Milk, they are now better trained to help with most breastfeeding challenges, more like a specialized doula focusing on breastfeeding.

At Mama Milk, we will be working together as a team now. Each person is liable for their own recommendations but we are all on the same page. We can communicate together via our notes on the Jane App. So if you see a different person in your follow up, they will be aware of your previous session.

Shahrzad (Shaz) Tayebi, IBCLC, CST

My name is Shahrzad Tayebi, call me Shaz for short. Thanks for dropping by 🙂

I am a proud mother of 2 amazing kids, a 27 year old daughter and a 16 year old son. We live in the beautiful city of North Vancouver, BC.

I have a B.Sc in Midwifery from Iran and practiced midwifery for more than 18 years there (not a registered midwife here in Canada though). My love and passion in breastfeeding led me to study human lactation and breastfeeding challenges and become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2013. I taught the Breastfeeding Course for Healthcare Providers at Douglas College until 2019.

With the birth of my son, who has Down Syndrome, I researched on how I could possibly help him with the challenges he’ll have and came across Craniosacral Therapy a lot. No one knew about it in Iran, so when I came to Canada when he was 2, I started him with treatments. It helped him a great deal. I quickly realized that this is the thing he needs, so I studied it at Langara College and in 2014 became a Craniosacral Therapist myself. It has been life changing for us. This is one of the many blessings he has brought to my life, because not only am I treating him, but now I am helping other people as well

Kelsey

My passion for birth work & lactation support began in 2001 during my first pregnancy.

I spent many years volunteering as a Leader with La Leche League Canada. My path to becoming a Birth & Postpartum Doula definitely chose me! Mentoring with MamaMilk has definitely fine tuned my support skills with such a varied and mammalian approach that I see the results of with my clients!

Lily

Lily

Lily is a postpartum doula and breastfeeding Doula. Her decades of experience as a mother (to 4 daughters), and educator, have taught her that breastfeeding is a direct and natural continuation of the birth process. It has critical impact on baby and mother attachment. Lily supports breastfeeding with a natural approach and her goal is to support every mother who chooses so to breastfeed comfortably as long as she wishes.

Erin

Erin has been passionate about breastfeeding since the birth of her first child. She has been helping parents breastfeed as a La Leche League Leader and a doula since 2016.
Erin wants to empower parents to feel like the experts on their baby and provides evidence based information to help you on that journey.

Jaime

I am a Birth Doula, La Leche League leader and training to become a Childbirth Educator. You could say I love all things – Belly, Baby and Breasts! After my own challenges around breastfeeding, I felt strongly that there had to be better way for moms to receive the support and help they needed. Shaz’s approach changed how I looked at breastfeeding and how natural it could be, if we listen to our own instincts and have the guidance supporting mothers. I am excited to help new families in their breastfeeding journey.

Jessica

I am a plant-based mama who has always had a passion for empowering others to be their own advocate when it comes to their health and well-being. This evolved with the birth of my son in 2021. As I navigated through the fourth trimester, I realized there was a big gap in the continuum of care for the birthing person. I felt called to connect with new parents and support them through this vulnerable and transformative time, particularly with breastfeeding and bodyfeeding. After meeting Shaz and witnessing the difference she was making, I was inspired to join her and become a Lactation Doula as well as a Childbirth and Postpartum Educator.
